Residential Assisted Living Facilities- Accommodations in General
A few years back, if a senior needed assistance with dressing, bathing, tranfering and walking or taking medication, the only options besides home with family were nursing homes or costly in-home care. Now there is a more affordable option that provides a home-like atmosphere and all the care that your loved one may need.
Residential assisted living facilities offer something special—a comfortable, caring, and gentle environment for those needing help to live well.
Basic services, included in monthly rent, offered by residential assisted living facilities:
24-hour on-site staff
Furnished or unfurnished rooms
Daily housekeeping and personal laundry
Three home-cooked meals daily and snacks
High technology fire alarm and fire sprinkler system
Health care management and monitoring by a physician
Laboratory, X-ray, Home health services
Medication supervision
Transportation arranged for local medical appointments
Residential assisted living is also a good option for some residents living with disorders such as Alzheimer’s, mobility limitations, incontinence, or other conditions that may become more common in one’s senior years.
The expansion of Medicaid home and community-based waiver programs makes it possible for an increasing number of Medicaid-eligible seniors to receive services in assisted living. Today, 41 states reimburse assisted living services through Medicaid—double the number of states from 10 years ago. Still, only about 8 percent of assisted living residents are covered by Medicaid, and the majority of beneficiaries are concentrated in a few states.
