Facts About Senior Care Cost In General
- According to MetLife Assisted Living Survey, the average monthly cost of assisted living facility in US was $2524 per month, or $30,288 per year, meaning that cost has climbed 15% in the last year. Services included in the base price of an assisted living facility larger than 8 beds, in most facilities, are usually limited to three meals and snacks, assistance with part of the activities of daily living, social activities, medication management and housekeeping. Additional fees may be charged for services like an increase in frequency and time for personal care, laundry services, meals delivered to the living quarters, dementia/Alzheimer's care, toiletries and incontinence supplies and hairdresser/barber services
- Assisted Living Facilities are owned and operated by both, for-profit and non-profit organizations, and can range in cost from $800 to $4000 or more per month, depending on where you live. Fees may be all inclusive or there may be additional charges for special services. Costs are generally lower than for in-home care or nursing homes
- In-Home Care costs vary greatly and will be dependent upon the level of skill required. Beside the expenses that you will have by maintaining your home and purchasing food, assistance with personal care can be expensive. Medical professionals will cost more per hour than non-medical/companion care. Rates can be as low as $15/hour (for non-medical/companion care) up to $40-$50/hour (for medical professionals like RN/LPNs) depending on the level of care required and the location
- Nursing Home costs can start at $6000 per month to as high as $9000 per month or more. Many people don't realize that assisted living facilities have different levels of care being able to provide a multitude of services and that you should look up assisted living before thinking nursing home.
